The 7th Annual Helen Alexander Memorial Lecture 2024 presents Dame Amanda Blanc DBE

The Helen Alexander Memorial Lecture is an annual event, with the overarching theme of Women in Business. Each year, a prominent female leader is invited to discuss an important aspect of business. The lecture is devoted to the memory of Dame Helen Alexander, a much loved and pioneering figure in British business, and supported by three organisations that she was closely associated with: The Economist, Informa and the University of Southampton. This year's speaker will be Dame Amanda Blanc, chief executive of Aviva.

The Helen Alexander Memorial Lecture is an annual event, with the overarching theme of Women in Business. Each year, a prominent female leader is invited to discuss an important aspect of business.

The lecture is devoted to the memory of Dame Helen Alexander, a much loved and pioneering figure in British business, and supported by three organisations that she was closely associated with: The Economist, Informa and the University of Southampton.

This year’s speaker will be Dame Amanda Blanc, chief executive of Aviva.

Dame Amanda has been the group chief executive officer of Aviva since 2020. She was previously the CEO EMEA & Global Banking at Zurich Insurance Group, and Group CEO AXA UK. Blanc was also the first woman to chair the Association of British Insurers, in addition to being a past president of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Blanc was ranked 33rd on Fortune’s list of Most Powerful Women in 2023 and appointed her damehood in 2024 for services to business, gender equality and net-zero.

She has also recently been assigned as an advisor to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves.
