About

Professor Michael E. Mann will explore how paleoclimate records and climate models of the past two millennia provide key insights into human-caused climate change. Over two decades ago, he and his co-authors published the iconic “Hockey Stick” curve, a powerful visualisation of unprecedented modern warming. This lecture will reveal how past climate history can help us understand the growing impact of human influence against natural variability.

Join us before the lecture for coffee at 14:30 and a reception after at 16:00

Professor Mann is the Presidential Distinguished Professor of Earth & Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania and an award-winning climate scientist and expert on climate change. His work has played a crucial role in shaping public discourse and climate change policy. He is part of the IPCC team that won the Nobel Peace Prize and has been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society. Selected by Scientific American as one of the 50 leading visionaries in science and technology.

Sponsored by the SMMI in partnership with the School of Ocean and Earth Science (SOES) at the University of Southampton.
