Alumnus shortlisted for Education UK Award

Arthur Rocha Baptista

Arthur Rocha Baptista (LLM Maritime Law, 2006) has been shortlisted for the Education UK Professional Achievement Award.

The award recognises alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership and achievements in their professional industry, and who can demonstrate the highest level of integrity and character in their professional career. Arthur is the managing partner of the law firm Advocacia Rocha Baptista, founded in 2007. He is consistently ranked among the top shipping lawyers in Brazil in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners. He regularly speaks at industry courses, including for Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, and organises the legal seminars for the Naval Cluster Fair in Rio Grande. As Director of Economic and Social Development for NGO the Rio Grande Shipbuilding Cluster Association, Arthur leads a UK Prosperity Fund sponsored project to implement a code of practice for the shipbuilding industry.
“I am proud and honoured, as you can imagine,” said Arthur, whose key advice for current law students was to focus on creating personal relationships at university. “For a successful career in future, networking and making friends is as important as the formal knowledge you will gain.”
