The University of Southampton is the back-to-back winner of the Gold Award and Highly Commended for University of the Year at the UK Social Mobility Awards. Winning this award once again recognises the University’s commitment to all of its students to have equal access to university, which is especially highlighted through the Ignite programme.
Gino Graziano, Director of Widening Participation and Social Mobility, said “I am so pleased and proud of our University for achieving the Gold Award again this year. This award is testament to the dedication, commitment and care delivered by colleagues across the University, to make the future of Higher Education a fairer place for all.”
The UK Social Mobility Awards share Ignite’s heart for levelling the playing field at university for all students. The Awards have been established to recognise and encourage action that will promote and increase social mobility within Britain’s companies and institutions. They are making the advancement of social mobility a key part of how organisations are run in the UK.
These awards recognise best practice and innovation, celebrating excellence and achievement, and aim to elevate social mobility as a cause equal to the level of other diversity issues.
It is only through your support that this achievement has been possible, thank you for your continued commitment to us.
Roshana Wickremasinghe, Head of Student Success, said
We are honoured to have been awarded in this category again, and are looking forward to continuing to support our students and building on the programme in the year ahead.
