About

We are pleased to invite you to our Autumn Lifelong Learning Open Evening which will take place on Wednesday 17 September at the University of Southampton Avenue Campus from 17:30 to 20:00

Our annual Open Evening will include opportunities to meet some of our course tutors, experience a new language and learn about our exciting range of Arts and Humanities courses. Here is a flavour of what the evening will offer.

Language Tasters

As usual we will be offering taster sessions in a range of languages where you can enjoy a short introduction to a language and find out more about the courses we are offering throughout the year. We will be running each taster session twice so you are welcome to attend tasters of up to two languages. Languages on offer this year are: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish (beginners and intermediate).

Humanities Courses

Alongside our language tasters we will be showcasing some of our exciting Arts and Humanities courses. These include our very popular Reflective Art in Practice courses in which you will be introduced to the ideas behind a specific movement or genre and then engage in hands-on practice in a range of media. Also on offer are a variety of courses relating to the study of Film: these cover a range of topics in which you can explore the cinema of a particular context such as The Spaghetti Western, the good, the bad and the beautiful or take part in a short practical course on filmmaking in which you will make your own short film in 6 Steps. If you are of a more philosophical nature, we have two wonderful courses which will engage with some of the difficult questions such as What is the meaning of life? or the Nature of the Mind. For the more literary-minded we have short courses in Women’s Literature through Time and Creative Writing. If History is where your interests lie you can enjoy the Historical Narratives of Winchester, explore The Soundscape of Discord in Seventeenth Century England or learn about the history of war photography in Capturing Conflict. We will also tell you more about our new courses planned for release later next year.

Refreshments including coffee and tea will be provided in the break.

Campus map and directions

Our Avenue campus map provides directions and links to Unilink buses which stop directly outside the campus.

We have a large car park at the Avenue campus and parking is free. There are signs which state ‘permit holders’ only, however parking restrictions do not apply at weekends or after 5pm on weekdays.
