Alumna Marilyn Martin-Jones (BA French 1966) is now an Emeritus Professor at the School of Education, University of Birmingham.
In August 2016 – 50 years after she received her first degree at the University of Southampton – she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, for her research focusing on sociolinguistics, multilingualism and ethnography. She is still actively involved in the MOSAIC Centre for Research on Multilingualism at the University of Birmingham, which she founded in 2007.
