Class notes – Bringing in the Charter

Alumnus John Foxwell shares a momentous event in 1952. In the autumn of 1952, alumnus John Foxwell joined the University to read Engineering. The University had just been granted its Charter, which would enable it to award its own degrees. The Charter was to be delivered by relay from London University, which had awarded the degrees in previous years. Class-notes-charter-relay1 John (Far right on the front row) found himself running on the relay team to deliver the Charter along with twenty or so other students. Each leg of the relay was around three-four miles.
