Philip Rule (LLB Law, 2000) moved to the award-winning No5 Chambers in January 2015. Philip is a barrister practising in public law, mental health including the Court of Protection, inquest and criminal appeal work in particular. He is recognised in the Legal 500 (2015) as a leading barrister in criminal work and in public law practice, with particular expertise in judicial review. He joins another Southampton alumnus at No5: immigration and discrimination specialist S Chelvan (LLB Law, 1999)


 

Legal appointment

Lord Justice Adrian Fulford (History, 1974, honorary LLD, 2011) has been appointed Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales for the term January 2016 through to December 2017. As Senior Presiding Judge, Lord Justice Fulford will assume primary responsibility (under delegated powers from the Lord Chief Justice) for supervising the Presiding Judges for the various judicial circuits of England and Wales. The Senior Presiding Judge is responsible for deployment and personnel issues for all circuits and acts as a “general point of liaison” for the courts, judiciary and Government. He will be the lead judge working with HM Courts and Tribunals Service in the ambitious reform programme that has recently begun. The University offers sincere congratulations to the Judge on his appointment to this prestigious post.
